Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Need to Know About Bamboo Haven Luxury Bamboo Bedding
We know that choosing luxury bedding is an investment — and you deserve clear, honest answers before you buy. Below you will find everything our customers most commonly ask about our 100% bamboo viscose bedding, from fabric and filling to care, certifications, and sustainability. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, our team is always happy to help.
ABOUT THE FABRIC & MATERIALS
Bamboo viscose is a natural textile fibre derived from the pulp of bamboo plants. The pulp is processed into a silky, lightweight fabric that retains many of bamboo’s naturally remarkable properties — including breathability, moisture-wicking ability, and hypoallergenic qualities. It is used in premium bedding because it combines the functional performance of a technical fabric with the luxurious softness of a natural one. Once you sleep on bamboo viscose, it is very difficult to go back to cotton.
Yes, without exception. Every piece of fabric in the Bamboo Haven collection is woven from 100% bamboo viscose — no polyester blending, no synthetic padding of the weave, no compromise. Many brands in the market label products as ‘bamboo’ while quietly blending in cheaper synthetic fibres to reduce manufacturing costs. This destroys the natural properties that make bamboo viscose so effective. We do not do this. What is on our label is what is in the fabric, and our OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification confirms it. Our duvet covers and bedding sets are finished with smooth, sustainably sourced wooden buttons.
Thread count refers to the number of threads woven per square inch of fabric. Due to bamboo’s naturally long and ultra-fine fibres, a 300 thread count bamboo viscose fabric produces a surface with the softness and smoothness equivalent to a 1500 thread count Egyptian cotton. In practical terms, this means our bedding feels extraordinarily silky and luxurious — at a fraction of the weight and with significantly superior breathability and moisture-wicking performance.
Our duvets, pillows, and comforters all feature a 100% microfibre filling. Microfibre is chosen for its exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio — it traps heat efficiently without adding bulk, creating a light, lofty feel that never becomes heavy or oppressive. The microfibre filling retains its loft and shape over time and recovers fully after washing, preventing the clumping and cold spots that affect lower-quality fillings.
Yes — and it actually improves with every wash. Unlike cotton, which can stiffen and coarsen over time, bamboo viscose becomes progressively softer with each laundry cycle. The natural fibre structure relaxes slightly with washing, resulting in a fabric that is noticeably more luxurious after three months of regular use than it was on day one.
PERFORMANCE, COOLING & SLEEP BENEFITS
Yes, measurably so. Bamboo viscose is naturally up to three times more breathable than conventional cotton, thanks to the open micro-gap structure of the bamboo fibre. This allows continuous airflow through the fabric, preventing heat from building up against your body as you sleep. Combined with bamboo’s moisture-wicking properties — which draw perspiration away from the skin up to 40% faster than cotton — the result is a sleeping surface that stays cool, dry, and comfortable throughout the night in a way that cotton simply cannot match.
Thermoregulating means the fabric actively responds to changes in your body temperature rather than remaining passive. The unique cellular structure of bamboo viscose allows it to release heat when you are warm and retain gentle insulation when the temperature drops. In practice, this means a single Bamboo Haven duvet or comforter works comfortably across all four seasons— cool enough for summer nights, warm enough for winter — without you needing to rotate between different tog ratings or weight options.
It is one of the most effective natural solutions available. Bamboo viscose’s moisture-wicking properties draw perspiration away from the skin rapidly and evaporate it through the fabric, keeping the sleeping surface dry rather than damp. The high breathability of the fabric prevents the heat build-up that triggers many night sweat episodes. Customers who have struggled with night sweats for years consistently report that Bamboo Haven bedding is transformative in this regard.
Bamboo viscose is naturally hypoallergenic and inherently resistant to dust mites, bacteria, mould, and the most common allergens found in standard bedding. This makes Bamboo Haven products an excellent choice for eczema sufferers, hay fever sufferers, asthma sufferers, and anyone with sensitive or reactive skin. The silky-smooth, friction-reducing surface of the fabric is also significantly gentler against inflamed or irritated skin than the coarser surface of cotton. Many of our customers with eczema report a meaningful reduction in overnight flare-ups after switching to Bamboo Haven.
The smooth surface of bamboo viscose reduces friction against both facial skin and hair during sleep. For skin, this means fewer sleep creases, less overnight irritation, and a gentler contact surface for those with rosacea, eczema, or acne-prone skin. For hair, reduced friction means less breakage, frizz, and split ends — particularly beneficial for those with curly, textured, chemically treated, or colour-treated hair. It is one of the reasons dermatologists and hair specialists increasingly recommend bamboo and silk pillowcases as part of a skin and hair care routine.
COOLING IN DETAIL
Cotton fibres are relatively dense and tightly woven, which limits airflow through the fabric and causes heat to accumulate at the surface. Bamboo viscose has a fundamentally different micro-fibre structure — its naturally hollow, open fibres allow air to circulate continuously through the weave, actively carrying heat away from your body as you sleep rather than trapping it. This is not a marginal difference: bamboo viscose is measurably up to three times more breathable than conventional cotton. The practical result is a sleeping surface that feels cool to the touch from the moment you get into bed and stays that way through the night, rather than warming up progressively as a cotton cover would.
Yes — and this is one of the features our customers find most surprising. The Bamboo Haven Duvet and Comforter are both rated at 9.5 tog, which is typically associated with winter use. The reason they work equally well in summer is the bamboo viscose shell’s thermoregulating properties: the fabric responds to your body temperature in real time, releasing excess heat when you are warm rather than continuing to insulate. Paired with the moisture-wicking performance that keeps perspiration from building up beneath the duvet, the result is a duvet that feels comfortable on a warm summer night without feeling thin or insufficient on a cold winter one. Many of our customers report using a single Bamboo Haven Duvet year-round without ever needing to switch.
Significantly. A single bamboo pillowcase or duvet cover will cool the surface it covers — but your body is in contact with multiple surfaces simultaneously through the night. If your fitted sheet is cotton, it will trap heat and moisture from below even as your bamboo cover breathes above you. When every piece is bamboo viscose — duvet cover, pillowcases, and fitted sheet — the cooling and moisture-wicking benefits compound across the entire bed. There is no cotton layer warming up against your skin, no inconsistency from one surface to the next. The complete Bamboo Haven Bedding Set is the most effective way to experience the full cooling benefit of bamboo viscose, because it eliminates the heat-trapping surfaces that a partial upgrade leaves in place.
CERTIFICATIONS & SAFETY
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is one of the world’s most stringent and widely recognised textile safety certifications. It independently tests and verifies that every component of a product — every thread, every dye, every finishing agent — is free from over 100 harmful substances, including pesticide residues, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and known carcinogens. Certification is not self-declared; it requires testing by an independent OEKO-TEX® accredited institute and must be renewed regularly. Every Bamboo Haven product carries this certification, giving you complete confidence in what is against your skin for eight hours every night.
Yes. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification covers every component of every Bamboo Haven product — the bamboo viscose shell fabric, the microfibre filling in duvets, pillows, and comforters, and all dyes used in the production process. There are no uncertified elements in any product we sell.

A duvet is designed to be used inside a separate duvet cover, which can be changed and washed independently. A comforter is an all-in-one top layer — the outer shell is the finished sleeping surface, and it is used directly on the bed without a cover. Comforters are more straightforward to launder (straight into the machine, no cover to wrestle with) and tend to have a clean, hotel-style aesthetic. Both the Bamboo Haven Duvet and Comforter feature the same 300 thread count bamboo viscose shell and 100% microfibre filling — the difference is purely in how they are used.

CARE & WASHING
All Bamboo Haven products are machine washable at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Use a mild, liquid detergent — avoid powder detergents, fabric softeners, and bleach, as these can break down the bamboo fibres over time and reduce the fabric’s natural properties. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or line dry naturally. Do not dry clean. The more you wash bamboo viscose, the softer it becomes — there is no need to treat it with special care beyond these simple guidelines.
Yes. Tumble dry on a low heat setting only. High heat can damage bamboo viscose fibres and reduce the loft of microfibre fillings. A low-heat tumble dry will restore the fabric’s softness and the filling’s loft quickly and effectively. For the fitted sheet and duvet cover, a short tumble on low followed by removal while slightly damp and smoothing flat will give the best wrinkle-free result.
We recommend washing duvet covers, pillowcases, and fitted sheets every one to two weeks as part of a normal bedding routine. Duvets, pillows, and comforters can be washed every two to three months, or more frequently if preferred. Because bamboo viscose is naturally resistant to bacteria and odour, it tends to stay fresher for longer between washes than cotton alternatives.
SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICS
Bamboo is one of the most sustainably produced natural materials on Earth. It grows to full maturity in three to five years — compared to decades for hardwood trees — without pesticides, artificial fertilisers, or artificial irrigation in natural growing conditions. It regenerates naturally from its own root system, requiring no replanting. Bamboo also sequesters carbon at a significantly higher rate than most trees. Our bedding is pure bamboo viscose with no synthetic fibre blending and no microplastic shedding — and our duvet covers and bedding sets are fastened with sustainably sourced wooden buttons. Our supply chain is audited regularly to ensure responsible sourcing and ethical manufacturing practices at every stage of production.
Yes. We source our bamboo viscose exclusively from certified mills that meet stringent environmental and ethical manufacturing standards. Every mill in our supply chain is subject to regular independent audits covering labour practices, environmental impact, and chemical handling. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification on every product provides an additional independent layer of verification that our manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of textile safety.
